Most of us know Munnaeru Vaalibaa – the evergreen Tamil song often sung at National Day events. Recently, several people shared with me this catchy new Tamil song, Singai Naadu, which was sung at the NDP.

Unfortunately I missed hearing it performed, because it was sung just before I arrived at the Parade. But I gather the crowd liked it, and it has also been a hit with the Indian community and younger Singaporeans. I watched it on YouTube and enjoyed it too. Hope it catches on.

Thanks Raj Mohamad Maiden and Paul Poey for highlighting the video on this page. – LHL

P.S. Here are the lyrics, with English translation:

Boomi, Unnai Azhaikkuthu x2 Vaa Vaa
(The land is calling you, come home)
Nam Naadu, Kural Ezhupputhu x2 Vaa Vaa
(Our country is calling you, come home)
Pala Inangal Sera, Orumai Kondaade
(Many races come together to celebrate unity)

En Veedu Enthan Thaai Naadu Endru Sollu x 2
(Say that this is your home and your Motherland) x 2
Singai Nadu, Enthan Veedu x2
(Singapore My Country, My Home)

Vaanathai Etti Pittithu Saathanai Seiya Vaa
(Reach out for the sky and make new achievements)
Ulagam Thirakkume, Vazhigal Pirakkume Vaa Vaa
(The world will open up & new paths are revealed) x come forth

Desam Azhaikkirathu Vaagai Sooda Vaa
(Nation is calling come to get crowned)
Nam Kodi Parakkuthu Inbam Pirakkuthu Vaa Vaa
(Our flag is flying & that brings joy to all) come forth
Pala Inangal Sera, Orumai Kondaade
(Many races come together to celebrate unity)

En Veedu Enthan Thaai Naadu Endru Sollu x 2
(Say that this is your home and your Motherland) x 2
Singai Nadu, Enthan Veedu x2
(Singapore My Country, My Home)
